the vision for passenger rail service

Rail transportation is essential for a green economy. The restoration of the Nanaimo Train Station is the first significant improvement for passenger rail service on Vancouver Island in the past 30 years. It is the inspiration for an improved and expanded passenger service for Vancouver Island.

E&N Train Station

The new station will be the focus for rail service that will originate in of Nanaimo and, from there, fan out north to the Comox Valley, south to Victoria, and eventually west to Port Alberni. This expanded service could provide both commuter and excursion service, with potential stops at the Nanaimo airport and connections to BC Ferries at Departure Bay and Duke Point.

The restored Nanaimo station will reflect the history of rail and the station’s future as a central element of a modern integrated transportation system for Vancouver Island.VIA Rail’s significant contribution to this project is a strong signal of their continued support of a passenger rail system for the Island.

the vision for the e&n station

After rehabilitated, the Nanaimo Train Station will be well poised to reclaim its role as a transportation hub and economic driver for both Nanaimo and Vancouver Island. The completed station will house the VIA ticket office as well as another 5 tenants (6 tenants in total). Our vision is for the E&N Station to not only serve as a hub for rail transport on Vancouver Island but also to help rejuvenate the surrounding neighbourhod and to become the tourism and business draw it once used to be.
